CARELESS FLIRT - UNAWARE PART TWO

Previous Chapter
Unaware
Perched on the window, phone clutched, body froze
anxiety grew with each passing moment.
Never has she seen him like this before,
No expression, not a word, not even “Whore”.

Unaware
Of the ringing melody, signalling
inconspicuously, to her duplicitous fate.
In the embrace of a stranger’s passion;
her consummation, demise.

Unaware
That the one night of the passionate retreat,
had her submissive to another man.
Would unravel her life in one fell swoop,
doomed to keeping Pandora’s box.

Unaware
Of who’s voice labours on the receiver.
Waiting for her response, the screen display,
an un-expecting twist of events.
A voicemail to witticism her heart’s wound.

Unaware
Hours passed, still perched in night’s shawl, the phone rang.
Again the same tone as before, no more, NO.
She answered to find him on the line but,
This it was different from other times before.

Unaware
That he was working, the sirens blaring.
Uttering words she never thought would be.
Who! What! How can this be?! Tell me not Steve!
Hysterical guilt lacerates her heart.

Unaware
She had passed out, phone in a busy tone.
The sun above the horizon as she stirred,
To a rapture at the door that sounded urgent.
A nightmare coming true as she approached.

Unaware
Of the state, she would be when she found out,
That her husband Steve had died this morning.
The words coming from him the one she cheated with.
Guilt struck hard like a slap stinging red print.

Unaware
To why he left, but she had a suspicion.
Pieces of that lurid night came together.
She left the fling at the door, frantic, crazy;
jolting for her phone going to voicemail.

Unaware
To what she would hear, but had to know who?
The next moments as she feared were of Steve,
His last moments spoken softly as,
he forgave her and her lustful embrace.

Unaware
That he knew, she only had suspicions,
but not like this, not to find out like this.
How could he leave, always had pushed away?
Secluded trapped in purgatory?

Unaware
Steve was that her fling was concluded, done.
She was wrong and wanted Steve to know.
She had written a letter to him the fling,
She was supposed to mail it today.

Unaware
She had been to Steve finding the letter,
And it was the letter that made him go,
As the letter wasn’t addressed to anyone.
Misconstrued intentions are written in ink;
To the reader, it was him one would think.
Unaware.
