FIRE STARTER - B.C. FIRES RAGING

The passion of the campfire is mystical, as dancing flames mesmerize both the young and old. It brings laughs and good memories, however a reminder of it's cozy warmth brings a deadly hand if not respected.

This weekend at a friend's place, while sitting by the camp fire having a beverage. I found myself thinking about the people out in B.C. who were fleeing from a raging fire, which has spread out of control and the firefighters out say they have seen something like in a long time. A perfect storm of hot and dry weather and high winds. Like CBC News reporter Justin McElroy wrote:

"You can have as many firefighters as you want and the best technology possible, but on a dry day, there are three simple words that can dramatically change any wildfire situation for the worse."

In the lack of better terms, its scary. I don't even want image such situation where I am trying to evacuate my family from an inferno. It brought some shivers I'll be honest, while I wrote my latest poem:

SPARKED,
SMOKING EMBER SERENADES; AND
KINDLING BECOMES AFLAMED.

OXYGENATED TENDENCIES
CONSUME BY FUEL; BUT
ENGULF CARELESS DREAMS.

FLEEING FROM HELL
ONCE CALLED HOME,
NOW A PATH OF
SOOT AND ASH.

It doesn't take much to set hectares of forest ablaze, with the right conditions. So, we found ourselves this night taking the extra few additional moments to douse the fire pit.
